Did you know a group of horses is called a band?

I'm pretty sure that isn't true, but still I just heard this band called Band of Horses and I love their sound, which is a little like The Shins.

I was reading a review of their newest CD, Cease to Begin, and the reviewer commented that the band moved from the Northwest to the Southeast in between the release of this album and their first one, Everything All the Time. I haven't heard the newest CD, but I plan on checking it out as soon as I get out of class, I hope my professor doesn't see this. The songs I want all of you to check out are "Funeral" and "The Great Salt Lake."

If only you could Possess someone's heart:

This next band has been a favorite of mine for awhile. The reason I started listening to them was because of Ben's side project "Postal Service". They were made known by the movie Garden State.
Since then I have loved their music. They currently now have 6 CDs and 2 EP albums. They are about to release their 7th album, and that is where this next song comes from:

I urge you, if you like this song, to try and go back and listen to their old stuff.

Artist: Death Cab For Cutie
Album: Narrow Stairs
Song: I Will Possess Your Heart

P.S. You also need to try and find Ben Gibbard doing a cover of Avril Lavigne's song "Complicated". I know, I know, but seriously it is a good version. Trust me.

Sitcoms on the old Hammy.... Im sorry TV On The Radio

So I was a caruzin' my roommates room the other day (he was at work), and on his desk I spot a CD. I have needed to post something new, so I snatched it up hoping there was something I could use on it... Man am I lucky. The CD was the works of TV On The Radio. It is a band I have heard of, but never gave a listen to (seems to be the case with me). Anyway, to the post...

It has sort of a distorted dance feel to it. I love it!

Artist: Tv On The Radio
Song: "Wolf Like Me"

Simple is good...

I am Pretty sure many of you already know this next band. They have been around for awhile now, and have had some hits along the way. This next song post comes from just the lead singer himself, Jon Foreman. He started a solo career/ side project. He started it last fall of '07 and has been releasing an ep for every season since. His plan is to do four (winter, spring, summer, fall).

This song comes off the Fall EP of his. It is called "The Cure for Pain"

I'm Sorry.......

So I am lazy. It's not like you didn't know. But seriously I am sorry I have not posted. I am mainly saying this to Codie because he has been giving me crap about it. So to all of the Three, YES COUNT THEM THREE, readers out there, here is my first post in awhile:
This post has been way overdue (huge understatement by the way).
This guy has been just a blip on the hip cool mainstream radar, but I think it is a great thing. It has really given him time perfect everything. His sings in a variety of forms, and is always re-mixing his old songs to keep them fresh and new. You may think it is a way to keep from making new music, but think of it this way: You may hate one of his songs, and it turns you away from his music, then all of a sudden you hear a new version of that song from him, and BAM!!!! you have found a new favorite artist! Please, Please, Please give this guy a listen and keep an eye on him. He is bound to have something you like. Down below are a couple of different versions of the same song just to give you an idea of the variety of the songs he re-mixes... Enjoy!

Artist: Jason Mraz
Song: Wordplay

Up and Coming

This band was referred to me by Maddi D. They are called The Future Cast, formerly known as the barons. They are actually pretty good getting a nice museish timbre in their music. I'm not a big fan of their one video though.

Sporting My Kakis

The difference between good music and bad music is the difference between substance and substance abuse. It doesn't freak you out and does not leave that funny cheese heroin sewage aftertaste. Yes, I know, I am talking about Kaki King again, but we are here to discuss good music but not necessarily different music. The reason I bring her up is that she has a new album out.

Dreaming of Revenge is the new album by Kaki King. Whether you are a guitar aficionado or not, her music still speaks volumes for her talents. While I'm not the biggest fan of her single off of the album, the other stuff is amazing.

A Ghost of a Chance

Nine Inch Nails has just electronically released their new instrumental album Ghosts I-IV on their website (nin.com) which consists of 36 tracks, some good, some a little like circus music, and some cool and spylike. The best part is, you can choose the "plan" you want to undertake. There is the free download (which is limited but good), there is the $5 download which includes all 36 tracks, $10 which is the download now with the promise of a 2 disc set later, the $75 deluxe package for the diehards and the $300 ultra deluxe editions for the obsessed (who by the way have already bought out all of the ultra deluxe editions. Anyways, commercialism aside, the album is a good one, with inklings of good ol' NIN industrial sound.

Trent Reznor has even announced an electronic film festival on YouTube...who better to describe the goings on than the Rezman himself:

"
Today we announce the expansion of the Ghosts project into the visual world. This record began as an experiment with us using sound as a means to describe visuals. Early in the project we thought it would be interesting to see what the community could create / collaborate on as a reaction to the music we were making. We wanted to keep the canvas as blank as possible for you, hence the lack of descriptive song titles and the primarily textural artwork and packaging. So here's the plan: we've teamed up with YouTube to host a "film festival" around Ghosts. The concept is for you to take whatever tracks you feel inspired by from Ghosts and create what you feel should accompany them visually. You will be able to see all of the submissions, and a team of us (including me) will be sorting through them and setting aside ones we feel are exceptional. Eventually (within a couple of months?) we will present a virtual "film festival" with me and some special guests presenting selections of your work. This isn't a contest and you don't win elaborate prizes - it's meant to be an experiment in collaboration and a chance for us to interact beyond the typical one-way artist-to-fan relationship. We've discussed some interesting ways this could go, including multiple installments of the online "film festivals," to broadcast TV specials, to a one-time live performance of the entire Ghosts record with your visuals involved. It really depends on how this progresses and develops. We are all very much looking forward to what you come up with, and hope you enjoy the experience. Visit our YouTube channel for information on how to participate." -TR

If you don't know anything about Reznor, he had dropped his record label (I bet telling them to go fallach themselves in a pretty freaky manner knowing Reznor). Anyways, enjoy the free download.
